Programs

Our Purpose:  To impact the quality of young people's lives by educating and inspiring them to value free enterprise, understand business and economics and be better prepared for the workforce.

Elementary School Programs

J A’s Elementary School Programs are a series of themes that help K-5th grade students learn about the U.S. economic system.  Concepts and skills taught at each grade level build on those taught in preceding grades.

 

       

  • Ourselves® introduces the economic roles of individuals.
  • Our Families® discusses the role of families in the local economy.
  • Our Community® examines responsibilities and economic opportunities available within a community.
  • Our City® considers economic development, local businesses, and career opportunities.
  • Our Region® features the economic/business resources found in state and regional economies.
  • Our Nation® examines how businesses operate in the United States.  Students role-play business ownership, interview for jobs and learn different methods of production while exploring various economic issues that affect business.  Five required, volunteer-led activities.
  • JA Afterschool "Dollars and $ense" is designed to teach a diverse group of elementary students personal financial business skills through activities focusing on earning, sharing, saving and spending money.

 

   Middle Grades Programs

Junior Achievement’s Middle Grades programs are for students in grades seven through nine. Students examine how businesses operate in the United States economic system and explore careers.

 

  •   Our World® surveys world resources, economic systems, monetary exchange, and trade.
  • JA America Works® provides students with examples of how business and entrepreneurship affed the economic development of the United States during the 19th century.
  • JA Economics for Success® explores personal finance and students' education and career options based on their skills, interests, and values.  It also demonstrates the economic benefits of staying in school.
  • JA Afterschool "JA It's My Business!" emphasizes entreneurship while providing a strong focus on social studies, reading and writing skills.  Students are encouraged to use critical thinking to learn entrepreneurial skills that support positive attitudes as they explore and enhance their career aspirations.

 High School Programs 

Junior Achievement’s High School Programs help students in grades nine through twelve gain insights into the complexities and rewards of the United States free enterprise system.

                      

  •      Success Skills develops students’ interpersonal effectiveness and problem-solving skills necessary for the workplace.
  • JA Economics is a full semester course that examines the fundamental concepts of micro, macro, and international economics.  (Classroom teacher is teaching this curriculum on the days that the volunteer is not expected.)
  • JA Afterschool JA Company Program focuses on analyzing and exploring personal opportunities and responsibilities within a student-led enterprise.  Eight required, volunteer-led activities as a supplement of 15 as a stand alone program.
  • Careers with a Purpose introduces students to the importance of seeking careers that help them realize their life's potential and noble purpose.
  • JA Personal Finance helps students make informed decisions about the effective use of income to reach personal financial goals.
